Draft Day Information and FAQs
Read the FAQs below before you come to the draft.
FAQs:
How does the Draft Work? •Eligible JV & Varsity players have their names entered into a player pool. •JV & Varsity Teams having at least 12 in-district players and who have not cut any players, "Draft" from this pool in reverse order of last season’s points, 1-pick per round until all rosters are filled or pool runs out. •Goaltenders are placed in a separate draft.
Who is eligible for the draft? 1)Players who’s School or District has no high school team. If you get to the draft and there is a team in your School/District, you will be assigned to that team before the draft starts. or 2) Players who are eligible to play in the JV or Varsity division (grades 9-12) and, after trying out for their School’s team, have been cut. You must have an official cut slip.
What do I have to bring to the draft? •Your official cut slip (see above) •Identification showing your name and address •$200.00 Bond in cash, money order or certified check payable to S.C.H.S.H.L. The bond is credited against your player fees of the organization drafting you. If you are not drafted, your bond is refunded.
What if I don’t want to play on the team that drafts me? •The draft is a second chance for players to play high school hockey; it is not designed to allow a player the opportunity to pick a team he wants to play on. •If you do not play for the team that drafted you, you will forfeit the $200.00 Bond and will not be able to play on any team for the coming season.
What if I miss the draft? •Don’t. You may not be able to play high school hockey in the fall
What happens next season? •Each season, you must return to your “home team” for a tryout. If you are cut, you have the option to return to the team that drafted you the previous year. If that team does not take you, you will be drafted through the normal draft procedures. No team may cut an in-district player to take a returning draft player
What if I am in the Freshmen division? •Freshman division players are not drafted. Freshmen eligible players are put into a separate pool and assigned to teams, sight unseen, by the league. •Assignments are on a first come first serve basis. •If you have been cut from a team and want to play hockey this fall, make sure your team’s General Manager gives your name and phone number to the League. •If supply exceeds demand, not all players are assigned
